Skill Requirements:
Education: Some high school
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.): Driver's Licence (Class 1 or A), Air Brake (Z) Endorsement, Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR) Certificate
Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years
Languages: Speak English, Read English, Write English
Type of Trucking and Equipment: Tractor-trailer, Van
Type of Travel: Short-haul, Local, Provincial/territorial, International
Documentation Knowledge: Driver logbook, Bill of lading, Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), Trans-border documentation, Maintenance and repair reports, Trip reports, Accident or incident reports, Dangerous goods occurrence reports
Communication Equipment Experience: Cellular phone
Weight Handling: Up to 9 kg (20 lbs)
Specific Skills: Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials, Plan travel schedules and routes, Use atlases and other trip planning aids, Receive and relay information to central dispatcher, Transport hazardous products or dangerous goods, Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment, Monitor vehicle performance and mechanical fitness, Perform preventive maintenance
Additional Skills: Professionalism in customer service, Handle inquiries from customers, Owner-operator business skills, Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques
Security and Safety: Bondable, Basic security clearance, Criminal record check, Driving record check (abstract), Medical exam, Drug test
Own Tools/Equipment: Tools, Steel-toed safety boots
Transportation/Travel Information: Own transportation, Own vehicle, Willing to travel cross-border, Willing to travel overnight, Valid driver's licence
