Education: College/CEGEP. Surveying technology/surveying. Work site environment: Outdoors. Wet/damp. Cold/refrigerated. Hot. Work setting: Private sector land surveying establishments. Construction company. Tasks: Develop survey plans, methods and procedures for conducting legal surveys. Supervise other land surveyors and/or field crews. Plan, direct and supervise or conduct surveys to establish legal boundaries of properties. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Record all measurements and other information obtained during survey activities. Prepare or supervise the preparation and compilation of all data and documents related to surveys of real property boundaries. Certify and assume liability for surveys made to establish real property boundaries. Advise and provide consultation on matters related to legal surveys. Analyze, manage and display data using geographic information systems and computer-aided design and drafting. Determine precise locations using electronic distance measuring equipment. Survey and lay out subdivisions for rural and urban development. Supervision: Staff in various areas of responsibility. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors (CBEPS). Licensure by the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors (ACLS). Computer and technology knowledge: AutoCAD. MS Excel. MS Outlook. MS PowerPoint. MS Word. Computer-aided design (CAD). Field skills experience: Total station operation. Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment. Survey specialization: Construction. Land development. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Own vehicle. Public transportation is not available. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Work under pressure. Tight deadlines. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Accurate. Efficient interpersonal skills.
