Deputy Fire Chief and Emergency Program Coordinator(Temporary, Part-Time)Reports to the Fire ChiefThe City of Fernie invites applications from qualified, experienced, persons to provide Part-Time, temporary Deputy Chief administrative and operational services to the Fernie Fire Department. This part-time, temporary position will be before Council as a part of the budget approval process to determine if it will be extended beyond March, 2023, as a Full-Time, permanent exempt position. We strive to be a model of public service excellence for all our residents, visitors, and businesses.POSITION SUMMARYThis management position reports to the Fire Chief and is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operational and administrative excellence of the department. Duties include responsibilities within the operations, administration, safety and health, equipment and facilities, fire prevention and education, training, and emergency management programs. The Deputy Fire Chief also oversees the response by full time Firefighters and Auxiliary Firefighters to ensure that loss of life, damage to property or injury, because of an incident, is prevented and/or minimized, and that service is delivered in a professional manner. The successful candidate will bring to this role well developed fire department leadership experience, operational and planning skills coupled with financial, and project management experience. Your ability to develop credibility and build effective working relationships with others as well as the ability to effectively manage change, are key abilities required for the position.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Deputy Chief will be responsible for: Leadership and Supervision Assists the Chief by directing, supporting, managing, and overseeing operations of the Fire Department including fire suppression, specialized rescue response, emergency medical services, fire prevention, fire education, core fire service programs and related initiatives Coordinates planning and evaluates the Fernie Emergency Management Program in accordance with applicable plans, bylaws, regulations, and policies Supervises both career and auxiliary (paid on-call) fire fighters during emergency and non- emergency incidents Assumes the duties of the Fire Chief during their absence Coordinates and oversees recruitment for auxiliary members and supports the Chief in career firefighter recruitment and selection Provides leadership and guidance of firefighter related training programs Oversees programs and the scheduling of training sessions, ensuring mandatory and cyclical training requirements are met Assists the Fire Chief with developing and monitoring departmental policies, procedures and standards that guide and direct the activities and services within the department. Liaises with other appropriate City staff, stakeholders, external emergency services, and the public as appropriate Administrative Management Strong understanding and ability to complete administrative functions including, but not limited to; budget preparation and management, administrative duties, complete grant applications and adhere to requirements, and other administrative duties as required Ensures all departmental work and operations adhere to relevant health and safety regulations, legislation, and industry standards including; departmental guidelines, City policies, NFPA standards, and collective agreements as applicable Reviews, evaluates, and updates policies, practices, and operating guidelines for the Fire Chief?s consideration as required Strong knowledge and experience with project management, records management, fire reporting systems (FDM), and coordination of procurement pr
