Education: No degree, certificate or diploma. Tasks: Determine materials required. Lay out reference points and patterns. Plan the sequence of tasks to cut metal most efficiently. Study engineering drawings and blueprints. Assemble and fit plates and sections to form structures. Set up and operate heavy-duty metal-working machines. Construct patterns and templates. Install fabricated components in final product. Smooth rough edges using belt sander or smoothing wheels. Repair and maintain equipment. Prepare, measure and mark surfaces to be covered. Examine products for defects to ensure adherence to quality standards. Position and secure sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists. Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years.
