Job details
Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Construction. Various locations. Renovation. Tasks: Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs. Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements. Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools. Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials. Prepare tenders and quotations. Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems. Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware. Instruct apprentices. Supervise other workers. Estimate costs and materials. Resolve work problems, provide technical advice and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality. Assemble, fit and install pre-fabricated parts and subassemblies. Install sheet metal flashings. Apply waterproof coatings to concrete or other masonry surfaces below or above ground level. Repair roofing systems. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Tight deadlines. Work with minimal supervision. Fast-paced environment.
