Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work setting: Optical retail store. Office of health care professional. Ophthalmic or optical laboratory. Tasks: Administer eye drops, ointments and medications as directed by ophthalmologists. Administer tests using equipment, instruct patients on test procedures and record results, and monitor, check and calibrate auditory equipment. Assist health care professionals. Follow through on treatment programs with patients. Maintain prescription records . Operate ophthalmic testing and measuring instruments. Clean and maintain equipment. Prepare and maintain equipment and supplies. Maintain supplies. Perform general clerical duties. Schedule and confirm appointments. Take patients' general medical and ophthalmic history. Manage routine office functions including reception, telephone and booking appointments. Organize and maintain inventory. Adjust finished eyeglasses to fit client.
