Education: Registered Apprenticeship certificate. Work setting: Various locations. Mechanical and service company. Residential. Tasks: Install gas heating units and their components. Measure and mark reference points for installation of gas lines and equipment. Service gas heating units and their components. Install and maintain meters and regulators and gas lines between gas unit and gas meter. Repair and service gas appliances and related equipment. Instruct apprentices. Advise clients regarding standards, safety features and maintenance of gas units and systems. Supervise other workers. Study drawings and specifications to determine the layout of the installation and materials required. Estimate costs and materials. Test and replace defective equipment or components. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Gas Fitter Trade Certification. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Gas Fitter Certificate - Level 2 or B. Security and safety: Basic security clearance. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Accurate. Dependability. Judgement. Team player. Positive attitude.
