Position Summary The Building Supply Merchandising & Sales Associate is responsible for delivering outstanding customer service, assisting customers with building materials and construction products, maintaining attractive merchandise displays, and supporting inventory management within the building supply department. This position requires product knowledge, sales skills, and the ability to work effectively in a retail building supply environment. Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Service & Sales * Provide professional, courteous, and knowledgeable service to customers. * Assist customers with selecting lumber, building materials, roofing, insulation, drywall, siding, decking, and other construction products. * Prepare estimates and product recommendations based on customer project requirements. * Promote add-on sales and complementary products. * Process sales transactions, quotes, special orders, and returns as required. * Build and maintain positive relationships with contractors, builders, and retail customers. Merchandising & Product Presentation * Maintain organized, clean, and fully stocked sales areas and displays. * Ensure products are properly labeled and priced. * Set up promotional displays and seasonal merchandise according to company standards. * Monitor inventory levels and report stock shortages. * Rotate and organize inventory to maximize product availability and presentation. * Ensure all merchandising standards and planograms are followed. Inventory & Receiving * Assist with receiving, inspecting, and stocking incoming shipments. * Verify shipment accuracy and report discrepancies. * Participate in inventory counts and stock control activities. * Maintain accurate inventory records and product locations. * Communicate inventory concerns and replenishment needs to management. Safety & Compliance * Follow all workplace health and safety policies and procedures. * Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary. * Identify and report safety hazards immediately. * Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent preferred. * Previous experience in retail sales, building supplies, construction, or hardware is an asset. * Knowledge of building materials, construction methods, and related products preferred. * Strong customer service and communication skills. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Basic computer and point-of-sale system proficiency. * Strong organizational and merchandising abilities. Physical Requirements * Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) occasionally. * Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods. * Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment.
