- Examine internal controls of organization
- Inspect baggage to detect undeclared merchandise or contraband
- Monitor payments of benefits throughout duration of claim
- Inform manufacturers and shippers of customs laws and procedures
- Investigate claimants when fraud or abuse is suspected
- Locate and apprehend persons presumed to be infringing on immigration laws
- Provide advice on reporting and measurement procedures for taxable goods
- Observe fabrication of articles affected by customs laws
- Prepare briefs
- Seek authorization from receiving countries to assist in removal of deported people
- Assist in searching and seizing records
- Conduct appraisals of articles
- Secure necessary travel documents for deported people
- Appear as witness in cases related to immigration appeals
- Assist in preparing charges for court cases
- Board carriers from foreign countries to ensure compliance with customs and commerce law
- Inspect goods imported by mail
- Arrest and detain individuals suspected of having committed a criminal offence under the Customs Act or certain other designated Criminal Code offences until police intervention is possible
