National Occupational Classification update

We have updated this page to reflect the transition to the 2021 version of the National Occupational Classification (NOC). This means that the occupation "diagnostic medical sonographer" was moved from the group Medical sonographers (NOC 3216) to the group Medical sonographers (NOC 32122).

Tasks

  • Operate ultrasound imaging equipment to produce and record images
  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment
  • Monitor examination to evaluate quality and consistency of diagnostic images, and make adjustments to equipment, as required
  • Supervise and train students or other medical sonographers
  • Record, store and process scanned images by using camera unit connected to the ultrasound equipment
  • Observe and care for patients throughout examinations
  • Prepare examination reports for physicians
  • Check ultrasound equipment to ensure proper operation
