Manage your user account

Create your user account

What is a user account and why should I create one?
A user account is the first step to accessing Job Bank for Job Seekers and/or Job Bank for Employers. It contains your personal credentials such as your name, email address and security questions. As a job seeker, your user account gives you access to Job Match and the Resume Builder. These two tools can help you find and apply to job opportunities that are right for you. Most importantly, signing up with Job Match will allow employers to invite you to apply to job postings. It’s a great way to step up your job search! As a recruiter or employer, your user account allows you to create job postings and access job matching features for employers. These features will allow you to view job seeker profiles and invite job seekers to apply to your job postings.

I don’t have a Social Insurance Number (SIN). What should I do?
If you don’t have a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and want to access either Job Bank for Employers or Job Bank for Job Seekers, you should apply for a SIN. If you are not eligible for a permanent SIN, here’s what you can do: If you would like to be matched to jobs, you can apply for the Express Entry program. Your Express Entry credentials will allow you to create a user account and access Job Bank for Job Seekers. In the meantime, you can still access job postings and labour market information that are available on the Job Bank website to help you with your job search. You don’t need an account to apply for jobs. If you would like to post jobs on Job Bank, you can designate a representative to act on your behalf. If the employer's business is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency, you can ask a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to access Job Bank for Employers and post jobs for the company. You may still be the person managing the screening process, but you cannot create a user account and log into it to post jobs.
Why do I have to provide my Social Insurance Number?
You are not required to enter your Social Insurance Number (SIN) to search and apply for job postings on Job Bank.  If you wish to use Job Bank for Job Seekers or Job Bank for Employers, you will need a user account.  To create a user account, you will be asked to enter your SIN. Job Bank is secure and safe to use. SINs are not kept on file and Job Bank officers don’t see them. With your SIN, Job Bank: verifies your identity confirms that you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident ensures that you register only once with Job Bank Job Bank's use of the SIN is collected in accordance with the Department of Employment and Social Development Act and the Privacy Act of Canada. You can find more information on the Social Insurance Number at the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
I’m having problems entering my Social Insurance Number (SIN) at step 3. What should I do?
The Social Insurance Number (SIN) is a nine-digit number that you need to work in Canada or to have access to federal government programs and benefits, such as Job Bank. These are the most common problems at step 3: If you receive an error message that states, “you may have incorrectly entered information into one of the fields”, double check that: your SIN is entered with no spaces; your mother’s maiden name field only has the last name of your mother at birth and is spelled correctly; and your birthdate is entered in the format of YYYY-MM-DD. If the error message states that the SIN entered is already in use, this means that there’s already a user account associated to this SIN in the Job Bank system. You cannot create more than one user account. If your SIN starts with a 9, you will be unable to use it to create a user account in Job Bank. SINs that begin with a 9 are temporary and valid only until the expiry date indicated on the immigration document that authorizes you to work in Canada. If you are trying to access Job Match as part of your Express Entry application, consult the instruction guide on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada If this is the first time you are creating a user account and you are sure that you are entering the correct information, even though the system is showing an error, please contact Service Canada at 1-866-279-5238.
Why do I have to answer security questions?
