If you are a member of one or more of these groups, please state to which group(s) you identify in your application.The function of the Maintenance Department is to interact and provide a maintenance service to all departments within the company, primarily focused on shore maintenance. All aspects of Marine Atlantic's operation rely on the Maintenance Department for assistance, whether it is planned or breakdown maintenance. Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Supervisor (s), Carpenters will perform tasks to sustain the terminal onshore preventive maintenance program as outlined in the preventive maintenance job plans, ensuring minimum down time with a cost-effective approach to vessel schedules and operational requirements whether planned or unplanned.Carpenters are responsible for maintaining onshore based terminal equipment, including facilities and grounds, fencing, ticket booths and asphalt. Carpenters construct, erect, install, maintain and repair structures and components of structures. Such employees must adhere to prescribed safety procedures, interpret drawings, obtain cost estimates, make sketches, work at heights, order required materials, and complete daily time reports.Additional Key Areas of Responsibility Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements.Prepare layouts in conformance with building codes, using measuring tools.Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join construction materials.Erect scaffolding.Prepare cost estimates.Execute tasks as outlined in preventive maintenance job plans. Fueling of vessels and offloading fuel from bulk carriers/tankers (Port aux Basques).Operate the Loading Ramps as required.Snow removal and seasonal ground maintenance care in designated areas.Interior/exterior painting, as required.Support the vessel in carpentry related work.Oil spill response on land and sea as required.Promote a safe working environment.What qualifications do I need to be considered for this opportunity?Qualifications:Red Seal Journeyperson Carpenter CertificateMinimum three (3) ? five (5) years' experience in a similar environment.
