Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work setting: Various locations. Residential. Tasks: Install gas heating units and their components. Measure and mark reference points for installation of gas lines and equipment. Service gas heating units and their components. Repair and service gas appliances and related equipment. Instruct apprentices. Advise clients regarding standards, safety features and maintenance of gas units and systems. Supervise other workers. Study drawings and specifications to determine the layout of the installation and materials required. Test and adjust control mechanisms and check pipes and piping connections for gas leaks using gas detecting devices. Test and replace defective equipment or components. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Gas Fitter Trade Certification. Gas Fitter Certificate - Level 2 or B. Gas Fitter Certificate - Level 3 or C. Area of specialization: Fireplaces and chimneys. Security and safety: Bondable. Driver's validity licence check. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Tight deadlines. Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Attention to detail. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Own tools/equipment: Tools. Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Dependability. Excellent oral communication.
