Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work setting: Agricultural equipment. Building construction materials. General manufacturing. Transportation - road/rail/marine. Mining Industry. Oil and gas industry. Oilfield construction industry. Tasks: Compute dimensions and tolerances of machine parts. Measure and lay out work pieces in preparation for assembly. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables. Repair machine tools and parts. Set up and adjust production machineries/tools. Fit and assemble components and machine parts to close tolerance. Maintain, repair and calibrate precision measuring instruments. Document and report deviations from specifications and tolerances. Maintain inspection records and complete inspection reports. Verify dimensions of parts machined using precise measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers). Set up and operate conventional and computer controlled machine tools. Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Machinist Trade Certification. Machinist Red Seal Endorsment. Measuring tools: Micrometers. Callipers. Calibre. Gauges. Verniers. Computer and technology knowledge: Mastercam CAD/CAM. Specialized machining processes: Ultrasonic. Plasma ARC. Laser beam. Water jet. Equipment and machinery experience: 3D pantographs. Automated transfer machine. Boring machines. Broaching machine. Cylindrical grinders. Drill presses. Engine lathes. Milling machines. Planers. Sawing machine. Shapers. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Public transportation is available.
