Reporting directly to the Addictions Counselling Supervisor, this position is responsible for support BRT6HC communities members looking for addictions recovery services. The Addictions Counsellor will be an integral member of the Wellness team providing counselling, referrals, home detox program, aftercare, education and prevention activities as required to communities. The Addictions Counsellor will work in partnership with the Wellness Staff and the community to provide effective addictions services to the community. Qualification and Experience: A minimum of a Diploma in Addictions and certified or eligible for certification with an addictions related governing body A minimum of two (2) years experience working with marginalized populations affected by addictions in a health-related field Knowledge of addictions, harm reduction theory, teaching/learning principles and motivational interviewing Demonstrated approach and strength based, client centered and trauma informed practices. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and programming supportive of this client population Demonstrated performance of appropriate documentation, record keeping and data collection functions Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of traditional Indigenous values, beliefs and healing approaches and a willingness to learn about and accept First Nations cultures Incumbent is self-directed and requires minimal supervision. Incumbent can demonstrate agency values in the work they do daily with BRT6HC First Nations communities, clients, co-workers and partnering agencies.
