Job details
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work setting: Animal hospital. Tasks: Collect samples and perform other laboratory tests. Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery. Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian. Counsel clients on animal health care. May perform a variety of office management and clerical duties. Prepare food and feed animals. Clip animal nails. Maintain and order supplies. Clean animal ears. Clean and disinfect cages, pens, aquariums, kennels, runs, stall and enclosures. Bathe and shampoo animals. Assist with inoculation and treatment of animals. Type of pets groomed: Cats. All breeds of dogs. Animal specialization: Reptiles. Hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, etc.. Exotic birds. Domestic animals/pets (cats, kittens, puppies, dogs, etc.). Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads. Attention to detail. Fast-paced environment. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Physically demanding. Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs). Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Efficient interpersonal skills. Excellent oral communication. Excellent written communication. Flexibility.
