For the past 4 years, 5 Prime has helped large pharmaceutical companies, biotech and venture capital companies accelerate and de-risk their drug development pipeline. This effort has enabled our partners to move from target to Phase 2 in two years in some instances, achieving our mission of helping to deliver medicines to patients in need. *Role Overview* We are seeking a Bioinformatician to join our multidisciplinary team advancing genetics-first drug discovery. In this role, you will focus on building, productionizing, and maintaining scalable analysis pipelines that enable large-scale statistical genetics and multi-omics studies. You will translate statistical genetics methods and algorithms into robust, reproducible workflows (primarily in Python and Nextflow or similar), run and optimize them on cloud and/or HPC environments, and ensure high standards for testing, version control, containerization, and data provenance. Success in this role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, comfort working with large datasets, and the ability to collaborate closely with geneticists, statisticians, and software developers to deliver reliable analyses and clear outputs for internal teams and external partners. *Key Responsibilities* * Design, develop, and maintain scalable Python-based software for large-scale genomic and multi-omic datasets. * Translate statistical genetics methods and algorithms into reproducible, production-grade workflows using Nextflow. * Implement robust testing frameworks to ensure reliability and reproducibility of analytical pipelines. * Optimize existing algorithms and workflows to improve computational efficiency, scalability, runtime, and cost in cloud/HPC environments. * Contribute to code quality through version control, documentation, code review, and adherence to software engineering best practices. * Collaborate closely with scientists to implement and productionize novel statistical genetics algorithms, and partner with other bioinformaticians and data engineers to integrate these methods into scalable, robust, and maintainable pipelines and shared infrastructure. *Required Qualifications* * Minimum BSc in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field; graduate degrees are preferred. * Minimum 2 years of professional software development experience. * Advanced proficiency in using Python to build robust analytical workflows, process large-scale data and develop pipelines. * Advanced proficiency with command-line environments (Bash, Unix/Linux). * Experience developing and maintaining workflows using Nextflow, WDL, Snakemake, or other workflow definition languages. Preference is given to Nextflow. * Experience with containerization tools (Docker or similar). * Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git). * Experience working with cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, DNANexus, or similar platforms ? preference is given to GCP). * Experience working with large-scale datasets. * Experience with AI-assisted coding tools and workflows (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to enhance productivity, code quality, and documentation. *Nice to have Qualifications* * Previous experience working with statistical genetics methods, algorithms, or tools, and analyzing large-scale human genetic multi-omic datasets. * Familiarity with high-performance data processing libraries (e.g., Polars, Dask, Spark). * Experience operating in secure data environments or Trusted Res- Location Montréal, QC
