Township of LangleyFire Prevention Inspector(up to 2)Competition Number: 26-F006Employment Type: Regular Full-TimePay Rate: $46.09 - $69.79 per hour (2026 rates), plus benefitsHours of Work: 37.5 hours per week; Hours of work are per the Collective AgreementCompetition Opening Date: June 8, 2026Competition Internal Closing Date: June 21, 2026Competition External Closing Date: June 29, 2026The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to two regular full-time Fire Prevention Inspectors in the Fire Division.Reporting to the Chief Officer(s), in this position you will inspect all types of public and private buildings ensuring compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal fire prevention codes, bylaws and statutes. You will provide fire prevention advice and information to property owners, occupants and public and issue orders and/or municipal tickets as appropriate. This Fire Prevention Inspector responds to complaints and liaises with other regulatory agencies, requiring sound independent judgment while operating within established guidelines and procedures.Responsibilities: Respond to complaints, and liaise with other regulatory agencies on issues exceeding the Township?s jurisdiction Issue orders and/or municipal tickets and authorize extensions as appropriate Review fire safety plans/construction fire safety plans for compliance with BC Fire Code and applicable standards Participate in evaluating equivalencies to established codes, standards, and regulations for specific circumstances Participate in fire and life safety education programs, talks, seminars and demonstrations Develop pre-incident fire plans for use by fire suppression crews and use computer software to prepare and update floor plans and site drawings Compile data pertaining to building features such as size, framing materials, and personnel hazards Assist Fire Prevention Officers with fire cause and origin investigations as required Perform related work as requiredKnowledge, Abilities and Skills: Sound knowledge of fire prevention, inspection and investigative methods, procedures, bylaws, codes, statutes, and regulations Sound knowledge of building construction, mechanical and structural components, wiring, and industrial processes including chemical reactions, and flammable and combustible materials and liquids Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with a variety of internal/external contacts, related agencies and public Ability to maintain a high standard of professionalism, integrity, reliability and credibility Ability to prepare a variety of records, reports, correspondence, and presentation materials Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written, and deal firmly and tactfully with internal/external stakeholders including property owners, the public and other professionals Established PC skills and experience in using relevant software applications (Microsoft Office, Outlook, PowerPoint, FDM, & Tempest)Education and Experience: Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by training in firefighting and/or fire protection technologies or an equivalent combination of training and experience Post-secondary degree or other designation related to the fire service and certifications in Fire Inspector, Fire Investigator, Fire & Life Safety Educator, Fire Service Instructor, Plan Checking, or B.C. Building Code - Part 3, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is desired Preferred courses may include (but are not limited to) FireSmart BC Local Representative, BC Fire Code; BC Building Code, Automatic Sprinkler and Standpipe Testing, Fire and Life Safety Educator Level 1.
