Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry. Work setting: Private practice. Tasks: Clean teeth. Diagnose dental diseases . Examine patients' teeth, gums and surrounding tissue. Hire and train staff. Instruct patients on oral hygiene . Plan dental health treatment. Restore, extract and replace diseased and decayed teeth. Perform oral surgery, periodontal surgery and other treatments. Supervise staff. Design bridgework, fit dentures and provide appliances. Write fabrication instructions or prescriptions for use by denturists and dental technicians. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities. National Dental Examining Board of Canada Certification. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Ability to distinguish between colours. Physically demanding. Personal suitability: Accurate. Efficient interpersonal skills.
