FISHERIES RESEARCH TECHNOLOGIST (RTP IV)Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems ResearchSchool of FisheriesMarine Institute(contract until March 31, 2027)The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland is North America's most comprehensive marine institute dedicated to education, training, applied research, industrial response, and technology transfer in support of oceans industries.The Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research (CFER) is a research and training unit within the Marine Institute's School of Fisheries that focuses on fisheries science and fisheries management. The unit conducts scientific research focusing on Newfoundland and Labrador fisheries and ecosystems, including their stocks and their sustainability. This position will be part of the research team working on the Aquatic Ecosystems Restoration Fund project: Healthy Habitats in Priority Coastal Ecosystems. Contributing to strategic planning and responding to restoration prioritiesSupporting restoration and rehabilitation of aquatic habitats and their long term sustainabilityEducating the public on the impacts of human behavior on aquatic habitatsSupporting co-benefits of aquatic restoration activitiesEncouraging and building local community capacity DUTIESAs part of the Healthy Habitats in Priority Coastal Ecosystems, the successful applicant will:Lead green grab mitigation efforts in collaboration with Placentia Bay harvestersAnalysis of green crab catch and data managementWater sampling for eDNA analysis using specialized procedures and controlsWork with team members on monitoring restoration sites using data from ROV and drone surveysData analysis and report writingCoastal field work into the Fall in specific areas of Placentia BayWork with work-term and graduate studentsTake part in project dissemination activities such as presentations, workshops, and community eventsQUALIFICATIONSThe successful applicant will have bachelor's degree in marine biology or a related field. Strong communication skills and experience conducting fieldwork in a marine environment are required Experience in fisheries research, knowledge of invasive species and experience working with communities and fish Harvesters would be an asset. The successful applicant will also have the ability to work as part of a research team and strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to work for extended periods in the field and at-sea are required.
