Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Calculate and prepare cheques for payroll
  • Prepare statements of earnings for employees, indicating gross and net salaries and deductions such as taxes, union dues, garnishments and insurance and pension plans
  • Complete and submit documentations for administration of benefits such as pension plans, leaves, share savings, employment and medical insurance
  • Inform employees about payroll matters and benefit plans
  • Maintain payroll
  • Maintain records of employee attendance, leave and overtime to calculate pay and benefit entitlements, using manual or computerized systems
  • Prepare T4 statements and other statements
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Ensure accuracy of completed time sheets, payroll and other summaries
  • Administer policies and procedures related to the release of records in processing requests under government access to information and privacy legislation
  • Calculate contributions and benefits for pension and superannuation plans

Credentials

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses 

  • Canadian Payroll Association's (CPA) payroll compliance practitioner (PCP)
  • Certified Payroll Management Programs (CPMP)
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification
