Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Confined spaces. Wet/damp. Work setting: Various locations. Commercial. Industrial. Institutional. Residential. Relocation costs not covered by employer. Willing to relocate. Excavation. Tasks: Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems. Prepare tenders and quotations. Instruct apprentices. Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors. Cut opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings. Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment. Schedule personnel, tools and equipment. Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges. Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing. Supervise other workers. Estimate costs and materials. Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size. Use maps and other trip planning aids. Supervision: 5-10 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Backflow prevention Certification. Plumber Trade Certification. Working at heights training. Occupational Health and Safety Certificate. First Aid Certificate. Driver's License (Class 3 or D). Plumber Red Seal Certificate. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate. Security and safety: Bondable. Basic security clearance. Criminal record check. Driving record check (abstract). Transportation/travel information: Vehicle supplied by employer. Valid driver's licence.
