Education: Bachelor's degree. Work setting: Consulting geology, geophysics or engineering firm. Various locations. Tasks: Conduct analytical studies of core samples, drill cuttings and rock samples to identify their composition. Conduct theoretical and applied research to extend knowledge of surface and subsurface features of the earth. Plan analytical studies of core samples to identify chemical, mineral, hydrocarbon and biological composition. Plan, direct and participate in analyses of geological, geochemical and geophysical survey data, well logs and other test results, maps, notes and cross sections. Plan, direct and participate in geological, geochemical and geophysical field studies, drilling and geological testing programs. Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment. Supervision: Working groups. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Registration as a professional geologist. Resource usage and environmental studies: Rock mechanics. Slope stability studies. Computer and technology knowledge: Realize modelling and simulation exercises on computerized units. MS Excel.
