Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work site environment: At heights. Noisy. Dusty. Outdoors. Work setting: Construction. Renovation. Millwork/pre-fab shopwork. Tasks: Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs. Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements. Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools. Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials. Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems. Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware. Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites. Instruct apprentices. Supervise other workers. Estimate costs and materials. Supervision: 3-4 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Carpenter Red Seal Certificate. Transportation/travel information: Own transportation. Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Personal suitability: Efficient interpersonal skills.
