Education: Bachelor's degree. Work setting: Social service or charity agency. Tasks: Conduct research on related specialized therapies. Consult with other health care professionals to evaluate treatment plans . Diagnose any behaviour disorders. Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and the patient's outcomes. Interview clients, prepare case histories and assess problems. Interview patients . Record observations. Review reports from health care professionals to determine patients' current and potential functioning levels. Supervise other counsellors, social service staff and assistants. Use standard psychological tests for assessment. Prepare a treatment plan for each patient. Provide education to clients regarding health promotion and injury prevention, management and treatment. Provide therapy. Counsel individuals and groups to achieve more effective personal, social and vocational development and adjustment. Implement treatment plans. Perform administrative tasks. Apply psychological theory and principles regarding behaviour and mental processes. Follow up results of counselling programs and clients' adjustment.
