This is a dynamic, hands-on position within our municipal fleet garage where no two days are the same. Reporting to the Fleet and Safety Compliance Supervisor, you will help keep our municipal fleet operating safely and efficiently through welding, fabrication, preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs. From snowplows and loaders to trucks, trailers, and specialized municipal equipment, your work will directly support the delivery of essential services to the residents of Oromocto.If you enjoy solving problems, working with your hands, and being part of a team that makes a visible impact in the community, we encourage you to apply.WHAT WE OFFERCompetitive wages under the CUPE Local No. 996 Collective Bargaining AgreementDefined Benefit Pension PlanComprehensive benefits package Vacation and sick leave entitlements as per the Collective AgreementOpportunities for professional development and trainingEmployee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP)Stable, year-round employmentDiverse and rewarding work environmentModern municipal fleet and equipmentA collaborative workplace committed to safety and service excellenceDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPerform MIG (GMAW) and SMAW (Stick) welding on municipal fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, attachments, and related equipmentFabricate, modify, and repair custom parts, brackets, guards, dump bodies, snowplows, sanders, buckets, and other equipment componentsCut, fit, grind, and prepare materials for welding and fabrication projectsMaintain welding equipment and ensure high-quality workmanshipAssist with preventative maintenance inspections and repairs on municipal vehicles and heavy equipmentRemove, install, and repair hydraulic, brake, suspension, and mechanical componentsAssist with diagnosing equipment failures and completing corrective repairsComplete work orders, maintenance reports, inspections, and related documentationMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentOperate tools, equipment, and machinery in a safe and efficient mannerAdhere to municipal policies, procedures, and occupational health and safety requirementsParticipate in winter maintenance activities and emergency response operations as requiredBuild positive working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and other municipal staffSupport other Public Works operations as requiredPerform other related duties as assignedEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSHigh School Diploma or equivalentCompletion of a recognized welding programInterprovincial Red Seal Welder Certificate, Provincial F4 Welder Certificate, or equivalent recognized welding certification acceptable to the MunicipalityMinimum three (3) years of welding and fabrication experienceDemonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience working on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, agricultural equipment, or industrial machineryKnowledge of occupational health and safety requirements and safe work practicesAbility to read and interpret technical drawings and repair documentationStrong troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently and within a team environmentPhysical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbsWillingness to work extended hours and respond to emergency call-outs when requiredValid Class 5 New Brunswick Driver's Licence with satisfactory driver's abstractSatisfactory Criminal Record CheckEnglish essential; bilingualism is considered an asset but is not requiredASSET QUALIFICATIONSPreference may be given to candidates possessing one or more of the following:Red Seal Welder CertificationPrevious CWB qualificationsHeavy Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Technician- Location Oromocto, NB
