As a *Cook*, you play a key role in creating meals that nourish both body and spirit. You?ll prepare delicious, high-quality dishes tailored to the preferences of our Elders through the dining experience. *Key Responsibilities* * Prepare and serve meals according to menus, adjusting for preferences, dietary needs, and special events * Cook a variety of foods using methods such as roasting, grilling, baking, steaming, and frying * Understand and prepare a variety of diets and texture-modified foods (minced, puréed, etc.) * Ensure all food safety and sanitation standards are followed * Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment * Assist with receiving and storing supplies * Collaborate with the team on events, celebrations, and daily operations * Provide guidance and support to fellow culinary team members *Team Member Role* * Build meaningful relationships and friendships * Collaborate with team members to create a safe, respectful environment * Participate in meetings, committees and community events *Qualifications* *Education & Certification* * *Completion of a recognized 12-month Culinary Program through a recognized institution (or equivalent experience may be considered)* * *Valid Food Safe Level 1 certification* *Skills & Abilities* * Strong communication skills * Ability to organize and manage daily tasks effectively * Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills * Experience operating kitchen equipment * Knowledge of food safety regulations * Compassion for working with seniors, including those with dementia * Flexibility, reliability, and a positive attitude *Additional Requirements* * Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform kitchen duties * Criminal Record Check (upon hire and periodically thereafter) Pay: $29.24 per hour Benefits: * Casual dress * Employee assistance program * On-site parking Experience: * Cooking: 2 years (required) Location: * Nanaimo, BC V9S 3B6 (required) Work Location: In person
