Job details
*Job Overview* Do you have experience in Outdoor Construction? Are you comfortable working around heavy equipment? Would others call you reliable, mature and say that you have a strong work ethic? If so, we welcome your application for our General Labourer role. McCutcheon Farm Drainage installs systematic sub-surface drainage systems in farms across Middlesex, Oxford and Perth County. Work happens year-round, weather permitting. (Search "Real Agriculture Talking Tile" videos on YouTube to better understand our industry). Our daily goal is to install as many feet of tile as possible while ensuring a quality install of a systematic tiling system that will provide benefits for the farmer and environment for many years to come. The General Labourer, in combination with the Heavy Equipment Operator, plays a vital role in achieving this goal and ultimately sets the crew's pace for the entire day by ensuring connection holes are always ready ahead of the Tile Plow. The work is Monday - Friday, 7am start, with Saturday hours occasionally offered. Some shop hours may be available when weather keeps us from the job site. Paying attention to the work going on around you, working at a consistent pace with efficiency and strong listening skills will be the keys to your success. Starting wage will depend on the amount of experience you have in outdoor construction work. *Duties* As a General Labourer, you will always be working around Heavy Equipment and will be consistently stepping in and out of connection holes. There will be four main tools you would use: a shovel, a sharp jack-knife, a customized tile knife and a drill. It is recommended that you have a good pair of CSA-approved rubber boots in addition to steel-toe work boots. You will need to be physically able to endure long days in all sorts of weather. You will need to have the strength and stamina to handle heavy lifting during small sections of each job. You will need to have a valid drivers licence and a clean abstract as we will ask you to drive pick up trucks, sometimes with a small trailer, from shop to jobsite. Previous experience towing and parking trailers will be an asset. You will help the Operators by stocking the equipment with the tees and fittings needed for the day daily. In the winter, you will help shovel out the tracks of the excavator and the tile plow at the end of the day. There will be other manual tasks assigned depending on the job. *Requirements* Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, shoveling and frequent bending. Ability to work in all sorts of weather for long days. Possess critical thinking and follow instructions through to the end, being sure to clarify any questions quickly.
