Intermediate Biologist

Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) is looking for a self-motivated and experienced biologist to join our team. This is a full-time position with ACA?s Land Management Program, based out of our northwest (NW) Regional Offices in Peace River.
Responsibilities And Requirements
As part of the Land Management Program, you will draw on your experience and skills to inspect, maintain, and monitor ACA?s conservation sites; develop detailed management plans to guide activities on lands ACA owns or administers; assist with developing high-quality habitat securement proposals; assist in project planning and delivery of habitat restoration and enhancement projects; negotiate term agreements with landowners to conserve riparian and upland habitat; develop and supervise delivery of contracts; respond to industrial referrals that impact conservation sites; and maintain detailed project files. There will also be requirements for you to assist with other Wildlife or Fisheries projects.
This work will support the Land Management portion of ACA?s Annual Operating Plan through regional delivery of provincial objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering components of larger projects, with oversight from a provincial Project Lead and Regional Manager. They will be required to report on project deliverables, budgets, timelines, and related activities. Collaborating with a variety of project partners, landowners, and stakeholders will be key to their success. This position may require occasional travel to other ACA regions.
Qualifications
* Minimum: B.Sc. in Biology or similar field with related experience
* Valid Class 5 driver?s licence (supply driver abstract prior to start date)
* Valid First Aid Class C certification with Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training
* Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
* Detail oriented with invaluable organizational and time management skills
* Good communication and writing skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills with building and maintaining positive professional partnerships
* Sound computer knowledge and proficiency with various Microsoft programs and GIS
* Collaborative working style and comfortable working in a team environment
Additional Skills Considered Assets
* Vegetation, fish, and wildlife identification skills
* An understanding of the habitat needs of a variety of harvestable species (e.g., ungulates, grouse) and Species at Risk
* Experience towing a trailer and using four-wheel drive
* Experience operating and maintaining a variety of field equipment (trucks, ATV, snowmobile, etc.)
* Knowledge of ACA's Land Management projects, including Conservation Site Management, Fisheries Access Site Management, Riparian Conservation, and Habitat Securement
* Experience working with landowners to establish term habitat conservation agreements
* Experience in dealing with industrial referrals
* Proficiency working with Geographical Information Systems
* Knowledge of various securement tools (e.g., land donations, purchases, etc.)
* Experience with various upland and riparian habitat restoration techniques
* Experience completing range and riparian health assessments
* Experience working collaboratively with other conservation organizations
* Experience developing and writing management plans
* Hunting/angling background experience working in a rural setting
* Professional Agrologist or Professional Biologist designations (or working towards)
