The successful applicant will be required to perform various food handling / preparation / and sanitation duties which contribute to the orderly and efficient operation of the Nutrition Services Department. Work will be performed in the Ingredient Control Room, cafeteria, and will include catering functions.
*Duties could include*
* preparing sandwich fillings, hot/cold sandwiches, cold plates, desserts, eggs, vegetables, gravies;
* assisting Cook 2 with main entree, gravies, sauces, casseroles;
* measuring and weighing ingredients for all recipes;
* preparing special diet meals, night lunches, patient requests/snacks;
* doing the prep work;
* servicing cafeteria and Meals on Wheels meals;
* washing pots and pans, and maintaining a regular cleaning schedule;
* delivering and retrieving food trays;
* receiving cash payment and making change for meals and other items purchased;
* stocking nursing unit kitchen as required;
* storing, labelling and dating of leftovers;
* placing and receiving food orders as directed by the Cook 2;
* supervise/guide Dietary Service Workers;
* assisting with staff replacements, as required;
* maintaining hight standards of personal hygiene as outlined in the Sanitation Code
* cleaning and sanitizing work areas and kitchen equipment;
* adhering to safe work practices, following Occupational Health and Safety guidelines
* and applicable safety codes; and performing other related duties, as required.
*Minimum Qualifications:*
* successful completion of Grade 12 and 2 years recent cooking experience in an institutional setting where substantial food quantities are prepared.
* completion of a professional cooking program from a recognized institution;
* capable of sustained physical activity
