*Position Overview*
We?re seeking a vibrant and passionate individual to join our team at Skills Society as a Community Animator. This role was co-designed by a collective of people with disabilities, service providers, architects, housing developers, and funders through the Future of Home: Inclusive Housing Solutions Lab stewarded by Skills Society and Action Lab, here in Edmonton. With a particular eye towards supporting the belonging of the residents who experience disability, you'll play a pivotal role in fostering a sense of community amongst all the residents within two Edmonton apartment buildings. You'll work collaboratively with residents, Skills Society, and the property management teams to create a vibrant and inclusive living environment.
The Community Animator is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and growth of the Community Animator Pilot Project for the time period of June 1st, 2025 - May 31, 2026.
*Key Job Responsibilities*
Project Coordination & Community Engagement
? In collaboration with resident volunteers, ideate, design, plan, and deliver engaging community events, workshops, and initiatives from concept to completion. This includes coordinating logistics, promotion, facilitation, and follow-up.
? Support and nurture resident-led initiatives, clubs, committees, or groups to enhance community engagement. Mentor residents to co-create and lead their initiatives with attention to accessibility and diverse participation.
? Cultivate partnerships with external stakeholders to encourage resident involvement in the broader community.
*Relationship Building*
? Foster relationships and connect with residents to understand their interests, strengths, and desires.
? Identify and document residents? gifts, skills, and interests to inform the initiative and encourage contributions.
? Develop and manage a simple system to track connections, participation, and touchpoints with residents.
Communications & Promotions
? Plan, develop, and implement communications to keep residents informed about the Community Animation service, such as monthly event calendars and newsletters.
? Facilitate communication through various channels, and between residents, to share information, resources, and opportunities beneficial for residents.
? Create accessible and inviting promotional materials for Community Animation activities, events, and opportunities.
Collaboration & Learning
? Collaborate closely with the property management team, residents, and Skills Society leaders to align efforts and respond to emerging needs.
? Work with Skills Society leaders to adapt and iterate the Community Animation service based on what?s working and resident feedback.
? Contribute to the evaluation of the pilot project by documenting insights, engagement patterns, impactful stories, and resident feedback.
