Calgary Quest Children?s Society has been a leader in special education within Calgary and the surrounding communities for over 30 years. We currently serve our children and young people in three service areas:
? Quest School: a K-12 school providing tailored education for students with exceptional needs
? Centre for Opportunity: a program for young adults working towards greater independence
? Care and Recreation: Before and After School Care, PD day/ School Holiday respite, and Quest Adventure Camp
*Quest Adventure Camp* is dedicated to creating an unforgettable inclusive camp experience for children and youth aged 6-19 diagnosed with developmental disabilities. Seven weekly camps with a variety of themes are available. QAC is a day program- camp counsellor shifts will be varied between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm on weekdays.
This *Camp Counsellor* role is full time (35-45 hours per week) from June 16 to August 15 2025, with additional training sessions on evenings and weekends from late May.
QAC takes place at Renfrew Community Association, 811 Radford Rd. NE.
*Responsibilities of a QAC Camp Counsellor:*
? Keep campers safe at all times
? Support all aspects of camper well-being: physical, social, emotional, and developmental
? Maintain constant vigilance in supervision of assigned campers
? Work as part of the team and collaborate with counsellors, Team Leaders, and Camp management
? Act as a positive role model and build rapport with campers
? Report directly to the Team Leader and Camp Manager
? Assist Team Leaders with activity planning and preparation
? Encourage camper participation, keep campers focused during each activity, and adhere to the daily schedule
? Lead camp activities and model enthusiastic participation
? Take part in excursions in the local community and field trips
? Work with campers with diverse communication abilities, including non-verbal campers and those using communication devices
? Observe and assess camper behaviour and apply appropriate management techniques, including challenging and potentially aggressive behaviour
? Manage crisis situations effectively and document actions taken
? Follow all safety protocols, procedures, and rules
? Perform regular cleaning and sanitizing duties
? Demonstrate professional conduct with colleagues, campers, parents, and members of the public as a representative of the Camp
? Demonstrate responsibility with confidential and sensitive information
? Follow training to support campers with additional medical and personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and diaper changing
? Other duties as required
*Qualifications for this role:*
? Minimum 18 years of age
? Completed High School diploma
? Legally able to work in Canada
? Commitment to providing an exceptional summer experience for campers of a wide range of ages and ability levels
? Caring, friendly, fun, patient and enthusiastic personality
? Reliable, punctual, and professional
? Experience working with children or youth living with disabilities between the ages of 6-19 years is an asset, but not required
? Energetic and physically fit
? Strong communication and teamwork skills
? Current and clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is required
? Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification preferred
? Available for full-time work between the hours of 7 am to 6 pm from June 17 to August 16 2024
? Available evenings and weekends for training from late May to June 17.
? Ability to swim is preferred
? *Class 4 (commercial) driving license a strong asset, or willingness to obtain*
