The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) serves over 60,000 permanent residents and approximately 25,000 to 30,000 seasonal residents. The region is diverse, home to several unincorporated communities, eight municipalities, and four First Nations communities.Under the supervision of the Engineering Services Manager, the GIS Mapping Technician performs technical work to implement and maintain the digital mapping system as part of the overall Geographic Information System (GIS). This position could be based out of either our Cranbrook or Columbia Valley offices.Qualifications and Experience: Two year diploma. One year advanced diploma in Geographical Information Systems. Three years Geographic Information Systems experience. BC Driver?s License.Key Skills and Abilities Ability to conceptualize, plan, implement and document systems and workflows. Ability to complete assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. Engage with fellow employees, the public and outside agencies in a courteous manner. Establish and maintain effective working relationships. Experience with design, integration and implementation of server-based enterprise GIS solutions. Knowledge of GIS software and other related software. Organize work schedules to meet deadlines and priorities. Troubleshooting ability. Experience with common coding languages used in GIS web applications, scripting and databases. Understanding of server configurations and components.
