Poseidon Ocean Systems Ltd. is seeking a *Structural Engineer II* to support the design, development, and production of innovative aquaculture technology. This role will report to the Structures Manager.
This role will collaborate closely with technologists, other engineers, production teams, and other stakeholders. You will be responsible for creating detailed structural designs and technical documentation, producing and validating prototype systems, and providing ongoing support throughout the product lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have experience in 3D modeling, drafting, steel structure fabrication, industrial standards, and a familiarity with ocean environments.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* Design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and system validation of:
* Large steel, plastic, and hybrid steel-plastic structures for on-ocean applications
* Large modular equipment skids
* Customized seacan systems
* Below-the-hook lifting applications
* Create and modify structural designs and drawings using SolidWorks CAD and PDM, and other CAD packages as required.
* Assess the performance of structural designs through AquaSim, SolidWorks Simulation, and other simulation packages as required.
* Prepare and maintain BOMs (Bill of Materials), manufacturingdocumentation, and other forms of technical documentation.
* Ensure all designs adhere to company standards, client requirements, and industry regulations.
* Ensure accurate documentation of design changes and version control for production teams.
* Work with Canadian and other global teams to ensure manufacturability and ease of assembly.
* Assist in troubleshooting design and fabrication issues.
* Identify opportunities to enhance design efficiency, reduce costs, and improve performance.
* Participate in design reviews and provide feedback for product development improvements.
* Support additional design, documentation, and technical tasks as required.
* Travel to client facilities and client support in equipment trials.
*Required Qualifications:*
* Bachelor or Master?s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
* 4+ years of relevant experience in structural design and drafting, preferably in manufacturing or product development.
* Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or eligible for registration in Canada.
* Proficiency with and ability to learn CAD packages.
* Strong understanding of materials, mechanical components, and design for manufacturing principles.
* Ability to interpret engineering sketches, technical specifications, and client requirements.
* Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving abilities.
* Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with engineers, production teams, and clients.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
* Organized, self-motivated, and capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.
*Additional Qualifications:*
* Familiarity with any of the systems listed for ?Design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and system validation? as a key responsibility.
* Experience with SolidWorks CAD, SolidWorks PDM, SolidWorks Simulation, AquaSim.
* Experience designing components using various fabrication methods (e.g. machining, injection molding, forming).
* Knowledge of welding processes and design of welded connections for steel and plastic.
* Familiarity with FEA or CFD techniques.
* Familiarity with engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO) relating to the construction of industrial structures.
* Experience operating in or designing for a marine environment.
