This is technical planning work involving the processing of subdivision, road closure, highway exchange and strata title applications and assisting a professional planner in the processing of rezoning applications. Concerning the former aspect of the work, an incumbent examines the applications to ensure compliance with the applicable By-laws and statutes and compatibility with current Municipal planning goals and objectives; coordinates the processing of such applications with other Municipal departments and external agencies concerned; suggests improvements and alternative proposals and prepares the requisite reports complete with recommendations for the review and approval of the immediate supervisor or department head. With reference to the latter aspect of the work an employee of this class acquires, assembles and presents the requisite background information to a professional planner who develops and presents appropriate recommendations. Effective communication including the ability to prepare concise written reports is essential in this role. The work involves considerable contact with developers, architects, land owners, Municipal staff and various other internal and external contacts in providing information, advice and assistance regarding matters related to the work. An incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement and action within established guidelines, referring unusual matters and the more complex problems to a supervisor who reviews work performance on the basis of achievement of desired objectives and the quality and technical competence of services rendered. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work plus considerable related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
