Education: College/CEGEP. Legal studies, general. Legal assistant/paralegal. or equivalent experience. Work setting: Company legal department. Legal firm. Relocation costs not covered by employer. Tasks: Advise clients on legal proceedings . Assemble documentary evidence in preparation for trial. Help in preparing and completing applications for simple joint and uncontested divorces, domestic contracts and name changes. Interview clients, witnesses and other related parties. Perform clerical duties, such as maintain filing systems. Establish work priorities for court staff. Receive affidavits, declarations and affirmations. Research records, court files and other legal documents. Schedule court trials. Assist lawyers in preparation for mediation and judicial dispute resolutions. Witness and certify the validity of signatures on documents. Collect and record administrative and service fees. Draft legal correspondence. Oversee maintenance of judicial court records. Call courts of law to order, read charges and take pleas from defendants. Computer and technology knowledge: Spreadsheet. Database management. Legal software applications. MS Office. Database.
